Philosophy and Values
We understand that curiosity is a fundamental driver of learning
Our educational approach is rooted in the Montessori philosophy, which underpins our teaching methods and principles. Our teaching philosophy and educational practice are designed to cater to the unique needs of each child and promote holistic development. However, we also understand the importance of aligning with the national curriculum, which is why our curriculum is CAPS- (Curriculum and Assessment Policy Statement) aligned. This balance allows us to offer a comprehensive education that combines the best of both worlds, fostering holistic development in our students over a four-term year.
At Randpark Ridge Montessori, we recognise that children have individual learning styles and progress at their own pace. Our dedicated teachers are committed to providing tailored support to nurture each child’s growth. We believe in creating effective learning environments that value every learner and empower them to become aware of their own thinking processes, equipping them with strategies for future academic success.
In our preschool and junior grades, we embrace learning and thinking as active processes. Children continuously build upon their emerging ideas about the world through play and exploration. Our approach is also informed by recent advancements in education and neuroscience, emphasising the explicit teaching of various thinking strategies to enhance cognitive development.
We understand that curiosity is a fundamental driver of learning. To harness this curiosity, we craft our curriculum around topics that capture the interest of our young learners and employ innovative teaching methods to stimulate their inquisitive minds.
Unstructured play holds a special place in our philosophy as we recognise its critical role in child development.
Play is not just fun but an intentional avenue through which children learn, grow and develop essential life skills.
Our manner of communicating with our learners is pivotal in shaping a child’s confidence and attitude towards learning. Following the research of Growth Mindset researchers such as Carol Dwek, we focus on praising effort rather than innate intelligence or talent. This approach fosters a growth mindset in our students, reducing anxiety and empowering them to take control of their learning journey.
Grit and perseverance are qualities we strive to cultivate in our students. These traits are fundamental predictors of success, as exemplified by the words of Angela Duckworth: “Nobody is talented enough not to have to work hard, and that is what grit allows you to do.” We encourage our learners to stick with challenges and overcome obstacles, developing the resilience required to achieve their goals.
We also accept the profound value of striving for balance in thinking, behaviour, and choices. We believe that fostering balance in these aspects is essential for personal growth and building well-rounded individuals who contribute positively to society. By encouraging our students to develop balanced thinking, they learn to consider multiple perspectives, make informed decisions, and approach challenges with an open and adaptable mindset. Moreover, promoting balanced behaviour instils empathy, respect, and a sense of responsibility towards others, creating a harmonious and inclusive learning community. Through guided choices that reflect balance, our learners develop a strong sense of self-awareness and self-regulation, ensuring they navigate their academic and personal journeys with wisdom and integrity.
Striving for balance is not just a skill but a lifelong value that equips our students to lead fulfilling and purposeful lives.
At Randpark Ridge Montessori, we believe every child is unique and deserves an education that values individuality, fosters curiosity,
and prepares them for a successful future. Join us on this exciting journey of learning, growth, and discovery.
